Bronte Coates is an Australian writer, a former bookseller and maker of literary journals, and a community worker. She has published and performed short fiction and nonfiction pieces across a selection of publications and events.
Her manuscript ‘The Curse’ was named a finalist in the 2025 Glendower Award for an Emerging Queensland Writer.
The judges commented: This tightly calibrated novel explores with pathos and humour the challenges of one couple’s conception journey. Cleverly told with sharp dialogue and absorbing characterisation, "The Curse" considers the myths, the reality and the absurdities of trying to create a human being.
Bronte currently resides in Meanjin/Magandjin on the unceded lands of the Yuggera/Jagera and Turrbal people.
